STORGI HEMATOLOGY CENTER AT G. PAPANIKOLAOU HOSPITAL

Three-storey building with tiled roof, donated by “STORGI”*, with outpatient clinics, short-term ward (4 beds), examination rooms, laboratories, offices, warehouses, auxiliary support areas, Bone Marrow Transplant Unit, eight high-sterilization wards for transplants, six wards for the pre-transplant period and a 30-bed hematology clinic.

*STORGI constructed and equipped scientifically and hotel-wise a complete Hematology Center, its first major project, which it donated to the Hospital “G. Papanikolaou”.

The Hematology Center of STORGI was built at the general hospital of G. Papanikolaou in a space provided by the hospital. It occupies an area of 4,000 square meters which is divided into three floors.

The first floor includes outpatient clinics, short-term ward (4 beds), examination rooms, laboratories, offices, warehouses and generally auxiliary areas to support the operation of the other two floors.

The second floor includes the Bone Marrow Transplant Unit. The Transplant Unit consists of 8 high sterilization wards (8 beds) for transplants, 6 wards (8 beds) for the pre-transplant period as well as the recovery and various ancillary areas.

The study has determined special technical specifications according to the most perfect modern methods for the sterilization of the premises and special materials have been provided to ensure the observance of hygiene rules.

The third floor includes the hematology clinic with 30 beds.

The Hematology Center is the only complete hematology center in Greece and the Southeastern Europe and one of the very few in the world because it is autonomous, meaning that it does not need support from any other department of the hospital.

It is designed to serve the needs of both Northern Greece and the neighboring Balkan countries.
